It was early Friday morning September 14, 2018. The house was still quiet, the sun had not come up yet, and I was enjoying a great cup of coffee. I had my Bible in my lap and I was ready to start my quiet time. On any other day I would enjoy praying the morning in, but today I was a little on edge. Hurricane Florence was sitting off the North Carolina coast and was about to make her way inland. Holly and I had never experienced a hurricane of this magnitude. I didn’t know what to expect and that made me more than a little uneasy. I was reading through Psalm 118 and I came to verse 24 and had to stop and smile. David was reminding me, through his psalm, of God’s sovereignty. He wrote:
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
David did not quantify the day: “this is a good day” or “this is a sunny day”. He simply stated that this is THE day. David reminded me that I should be glad every day because God made it…whether the skies were sparkling blue…or whether there was a category 4 hurricane. In that moment it was as if God reminded me that He was the creator and he was bigger than any storm in creation. I remember feeling a great sense of peace in that moment. My Heavenly Father was BIGGER than Hurricane Florence.
Why should I fear?
